You live in LA or you are visiting LA, a culinary paradise, so how do you narrow down which restaurants to try? Have no fear! I have list of restaurants I want to try in LA that grows by the day, but little by little I am crossing so many delicious places off my list. Besides recipes, I also want to share restaurants that I’ve tried and loved on What Annie’s Eating, so you, too have a list of delicious places that have been vetted by yours truly. I live in West LA, so the majority of the places I’ll review will be in LA, but stay tuned for recipes in some of my other favorite cities, too!
This past Saturday my friends and I threw a surprise birthday dinner party (blog post to come on this, too) for our close friend Chelsea, the talented creator of Salt and Bloom. Chelsea is a lover of all things vintage, California, healthy foods, and of course, beautiful flowers, so naturally we headed to the flower mart in downtown LA for some inspiration. Our field trip turned into a food adventure, and I’m here to give you all the details of your next outing in downtown LA.
First, head to the flower mart! Peruse the aisles for everything from sunflowers, succulents, hydrangeas, baby’s breath, tulips, lilies, colorful amaranth, proteas, and more. The flower mart also sells other items, like vases, candle holders, and other decorative elements, like pieces of driftwood. We purchased white hydrangeas for the table setting and tall sunflowers for surrounding vases to keep it simple.
Next, go eat brunch across the street at Poppy + Rose! I ordered the market scramble off of their breakfast menu, full of caramelized onions, mushrooms, bacon, and gouda cheese. It was delicious and I would certainly order it again. My friends ordered the heirloom tomato eggs benedict, scrambled eggs with bacon, the cobb salad with smoked chicken from the lunch menu (she added fried chicken to it and loved it), and a piece of coffee cake. Everyone loved their dishes. Plus, our server brought us Cholula AND Sriracha… a girl after my own heart.
And last, but certainly not least, grab coffee and dessert a few blocks away at Bottega Louie! Chelsea loves Bottega Louie macaroons so we picked out some of her favorite flavors and custom-made a little box of them for her, and ogled at all of the pastries behind the counter. The pastries here are beautiful and the walls are lined with colorful pastel boxes and décor that remind me of Ladurée in Paris. You can’t go wrong ordering any of their sweets and baked goods with a cup of coffee. I haven’t ordered off of their larger menu (yet) but I’m saving that for another hungry day.
I hope this post leads you to some delicious decisions in the near future! I’d love to know if there are other restaurants that readers are looking to try – perhaps I’ve tried them and I can post them on here!
